Istanbul has two international airports and three Bosphorus cruise piers most tourists actually use. Istanbul Airport (IST) sits on the European side, 45–55 km northwest of the cruise piers. Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) sits on the Asian side, 50–65 km east, and requires a Bosphorus bridge crossing to reach the European piers where most cruises depart.
The three main piers are Karaköy (under the Galata Bridge — used by some dinner cruises and ferries), Kabataş (the main shared sunset cruise departure point and F1 funicular terminus), and Kuruçeşme (the boutique pier used for most private yacht charters). GoldenSunsetTour's Bosphorus sunset cruise departs from Kabataş; the Bosphorus dinner cruise uses a hotel transfer that picks up from central districts; and private yacht charters depart from whichever pier the chosen yacht is moored at.
For a same-day arrival, the simplest stack is: land → IstanbulKart from the arrivals vending machine → official taxi or HAVAIST to your hotel → drop bags → take the T1 tram or hotel transfer to the pier. The most expensive mistake tourists make is dragging suitcases directly to the pier — none of the cruise boats have left-luggage facilities, and most piers have nowhere safe to leave bags while you board.
